Sandy Stratil is a watermedia artist who has been painting for over 30 years. She received her bachelor's and Masters' degrees from Morehead State University in Kentucky. She taught high school art for 9 years in Kentucky and Ohio before moving to North Carolina. She has taught English and art at UNC Pembroke for 20 years where she is the Director of the College Opportunity Program.
After years of painting in watercolor, Sandy began to explore mixed media techniques of collage and acrylic phototransfers. Using first her husband's family and then her own family as the subject matter, she began to develop a unique style of painting which uses transfers of photographs combined with acrylic paint, pencil, and collage elements.
Sandy still does traditional paintings of some of her favorite subjects, including flowers, landscapes, and "people paintings" (not portraits), and commissions for the phototransfer collages done from clients' photographs and collage elements (for example, wedding invitations). Sample works are shown in these webpages. Come in for a visit to Sandy's online studio!
